Kenjutsu (sword art)

Kenjutsu complements Aiki-Jiu Jitsu, the sword being an extension of the hands. The principles of body movement such as lowering the shoulders, relaxing the limbs and using gravity to create the driving force behind the technique are similar to that of Aiki-Jiu Jitsu. This movement, once central to advanced levels of classical Kenjutsu, is different from the circular body movements of Jiu Jitsu. The use of wooden swords in duels was common place as a non-lethal way of settling scores.
